Surplus School Site Update: On February 4, 2025, Edmonton City Council provided clarity and support around the Surplus School Sites and the program guide to move forward expeditiously. City Council passed a motion now requiring each site to achieve a minimum requirement of 30% affordable housing .
In addition, City Council reaffirmed the importance of public engagement but did not prescribe specific changes to the Surplus School Site Program Guide. The City would like to restate that all proponents will be required to complete a Community Engagement Plan as part of the sales agreement and the affordable housing agreement, with continued communication and engagement until at least the Building Permit is approved. The purpose of this engagement is to build trust and relationships along with opportunities for input, where possible, in order to support the integration of future residents into the communities.
La Perle's sale listing closed on February 14th, with no extensions planned.
